Thanksgiving Is a Mouthful

“But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks” (Ephesians 5:3-4). Surely we can see that filthy, smutty, dirty language that spews from a person's heart cannot be canceled out by an hour or a day of “Thanksgiving.”  Jesus made this very clear when He said: “Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Matthew 12:34). “Thanksgiving” should not be confined to a day, but to a way of life, and a change of heart. David said: “I will wash my hands in innocence...That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving” (Psalm 26:6-7). - November 22, 2021

This and other short thoughts are published in the e-version of the Independent Herald newspaper, as well as available in Words of Wisdom Newspaper Articles.

Salvation and Prayer: Words of Wisdom Mini Article Available

In the New Testament, there is no record of a sinner being saved by prayer alone.  When the church of Christ began, sinful Jews asked, “what shall we do?”  Peter told them to, “Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38). The first Gentile sinner, Cornelius, was praying, but was told to send for Peter to tell him saving words (Acts 10:3011:14). Peter “commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord”          (Acts 10:48).  Saul of Tarsus saw Jesus, Who sent him into Damascus where he prayed, and was told to “be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord” (Acts 22:16). None of them were told only to pray, claim their salvation, or join the church of their choice. This mini article and others is now available in Words of Wisdom Articles.
